The Start-up Story

Hello everybody,

Thank you so much for taking the time to show some support for our page and check out
our blog. My name is Matt Brown, my wife’s name is Nicole and we are the creators of The
Nickel Farm. The two of us grew up in the small rural town of Balm, Florida, which is well-
known for its variety of many different types of farms from livestock and small animal farms, to
fruit and veggie farms. The two of us have always had a love and passion for agriculture, so it’s
no surprise to us we became farmers ourselves and have gained a love for creating the best
quality cut of poultry our customers can buy.
In 2018, my wife and I bought our first piece of land together in a rural region of
Manatee County, Florida called Duette. When we first bought the property, it was really
overgrown and in need of some major cutting back. After the first year of being on our property,
we had made a lot of progress in clearing out parts of the land to make way for green pasture in
hopes to put animals on it in the near future. We decided to go ahead and buy a batch of ISA
Brown egg laying chickens, so our family could have fresh homegrown eggs at any given time
we might need them. Six months came and went and our first flock of chickens had started
laying some great tasting eggs for our family to enjoy. We loved the hobby so much, we decided
to get more hens in order to double our egg yields and satisfy the demand we were experiencing
from our friends and family that also loved the taste of these eggs.
Then that next Spring, we decided we wanted to raise our own broilers and experience
the benefits and better taste qualities fresh, pasture raised chickens provide compared to
commercial store-bought chicken meat. We purchased a batch of 30 Cornish Cross chickens

from Meyer hatchery and had some amazing results. We raised our batch of broilers in nine short
weeks, harvested them all on our own, and was blown away by the fantastic taste these birds
produced. After experiencing these awesome taste differences and health benefits, we wanted
others to experience these great advantages as well and that’s when we decided to embark on the
journey of creating The Nickel Farm.
Our farm consists of multiple clusters of oak trees, a beautiful pond, and green pasture
where we raise our birds. We have a large brooder that holds the broiler chicks in it for the first
two weeks of their life and multiple chicken tractors that they get transitioned to and moved daily
across pasture in for the remaining of their grow time. We have a steel shop on the property that
we utilize to do the processing phase of the broiler chickens and it is also used for storage. Our
egg layers have free range of our property and use a stationary coop with nest boxes I built for
them myself.
We offer fresh free-range eggs all year round and produce fresh poultry meat from
September to May. Though we might be a new and upcoming farm, I believe that if our
customers give us a chance and try some of our products, they will fall in love with the
difference in quality and taste just like we did. Customers that we do provide service to always
tells us how much they love the taste of our chicken and eggs. Give ours a try today and you will
too.
